Parashat Qorach
Qorach’s rebellion warns against pride and divisiveness within the community
The descendants of Yishma’el embraced a religion that breeds Jew-hatred. The same thing has happened with christianity, which was founded on an unwillingness to be like the Jews. The descendants of `Esav founded the Roman Empire and that is why this Jew-hatred can be found throughout the entire Roman system. The root of this hatred can be traced to a tense family situation. The breeding ground for Qorach’s rebellion was the situation in his family in which his younger cousin was appointed leader over him while he was not given any position beyond the normal Levite ministry. How important it is to make sure that jealousy is rooted out of our hearts!
In the Book of B’midbar, we see the recounting of the story of Yisra'el’s quest through the wilderness on their way to the promised land. It is a journey that could have been negated if it weren’t for the bad report of the ten spies. It also outlines how the generation who came out of Mitzrayim would die in the wilderness and give way to the triumph of the second generation in leading their way into taking the promised land as their inheritance.
As Torah believers, we find the book of B’midbar and the stories therein, as a historical account of how we. as followers of Yeshua, are grafted into the covenants and promises of YAH with our forefathers and how we can learn to walk and learn from their actions.
